It was weird tables were full, but it felt empty, dim and somehow isolating. ![]() The tables were awkwardly pushed to one-third of the of entire large room and it felt… off in there. So I went in on a Sunday for dim sum on a whim. The food for events reminds me of China Harbor for wedding receptions. When set up for a wedding reception, it takes A LOT of gussying up to get it past the VFW hall-feel (no offense, VFW’s everywhere I’ve volunteered in one before so I’m going from that experience.) Some of my friends have succeeded in beautifying the space, and some… not so much. If it wasn’t for wedding receptions, I would have never stopped into Jumbo at all. Tard says, «No.» And even though Grumpy Cat, like other internet pop culture icons will eventually be replaced by something grumpier/cuter/cleverer/whateverer, my opinion after coming here a few times will not likely morph into something else. Would consider coming here again if it’s a last-minute dim sum craving and if Chinatown isn’t an option for whatever reason. Rest of the dim sum were average - Har gow, siu mai, sticky chicken rice, and steamed spare ribs. It had some fish cakes and pickled veggies tossed in and was a pretty good dish. They had this yin-yang rice noodle dish that had two types of noodles - the glassy (fun she) type and another type. Outside had some good firmness but filling was soft and flavorful. The minced chive and shrimp dumpling wrapped in a egg-like wrapper. The two dishes I thought were best executed were: 1. ![]() It was maybe 75% full and later got to full within the half hour. The restaurant was spacious but sorta dark for some reason. ![]() We chose Jumbo since it was close to where we were staying and they have a huge lot! My mom warned me to moderate my expectations, since Jumbo has changed management, staff, and chefs over the years. Since we had an afternoon flight to catch, Chinatown probably has issues with parking and wait times, especially at Jade Village and Harbor City.
